The federal government has been urged to commit five percent of its annual budget to achieving transition to renewable energy alternatives across a 10-year period.
The executive director of Environmental Rights Action, Dr Godwin Uyi Oja, made the call yesterday in Abuja at the governance and transition training themed ‘Energy Governance and Just Transition for Nigeria’.
He noted that there was hardly any effort to show Nigeria's commitment to addressing climate change and reducing carbon emissions.
Nigeria should not be left behind in the global shift from flail fuel dependency to renewable energy sources as a response to curbing climate change, he said.
